Custom House Derry

Londonderry, Northern Ireland, NI
Stronghold Preservation, as a specialist damp proofing company, was asked to submit a tender for remedial works during the major renovation of the Custom House, Derry. Due to the successful tender submission, Stronghold Preservation carried out an electro osmosis damp proof course, cementitious tanking and woodworm treatment on the Custom House.

Further Information

Electro Osmosis DPC
The architect had specified that an electro osmosis damp proof course be installed, to remedy the rising damp problem.  Electro osmosis was the chosen damp proof course, as it is generally a more suitable remedial damp proof treatment for rising damp in solid stone walls.  A 20 year guarantee was issued for the remedial damp proof course.

Cementitious Tanking
Due to the external ground levels being slightly higher than the internal finished floor in some places, the architect had specified certain areas to have cementitious tanking carried out.  A 10 year guarantee was issued for the tanking.

Woodworm Treatment
Also included in the tender was woodworm treatment, carried out to the first and second floor joists, and the timbers in the roof: all affected areas were sprayed with an insecticide.  A 20 year guarantee was issued for the woodworm treatment.

The Custom House, since its refurbishment, operates as a restaurant and wine bar.  It was built in 1876 and is a Grade B1 listed building.
