Stronghold Preservation were contacted because parts of the stone facade were becoming loose, and some masonry falling, causing a hazard to the public.
Along with the conservation architect, Stronghold Preservation designed a temporary solution to the problem; designing and installing two different systems of
masonry netting systems to catch the falling masonry debris.
Further Information
To the rear stairwell, a discreet fine mesh netting was applied
vertically and directly to the building, to catch small fragments
of flaking stone. To the remainder of the building, a 1 metre
horizontal 'catch net' was bracketed at approximately 3.5metres
above finished ground level. This overhead mesh protection was
anchored to the building by Cintec stitching anchors.
Stronghold Preservation are approved installers of Cintec
anchors in Northern Ireland.
The Belfast Royal Academy is a voluntary grammar school, the
oldest school in Belfast. The Crombie building is a B1 listed
building, constructed in 1880.
