The sudden collapse of a supporting pier on the viaduct, due to tidal scour and erosion, caused serious delay & disruption to the railway line between Belfast & Dublin. The subsequent rebuilding and strengthening works were therefore of an urgent nature.
Stronghold Preservation carried out diamond drilling and grouting of the remaining 10 piers and 2 abutments before installing tie bars into the stone built piers to strengthen them against future collapse.
At short notice and due to the tidal nature of the project, Stronghold Preservation had a very limited time frame to complete the installation of the tie bars.
Further Information
The installation of the tie bars involved diamond coring 50mm
diameter holes and grouting the bars into the piers, without
causing grout spillages through the structure into the water ways.
A thixotropic grout was selected for speed, ease of use and so that
seepage of grout through the structure did not occur. The
installation of the tie bars was completed under difficult working
conditions, by Stronghold Preservation on time, on budget and to
the clients satisfaction.
Stronghold Preservation are approved installers of Cintec
anchors in Ireland.
