Stronghold Preservation were responsible for the masonry stitching repairs, working alongside the Structural Engineer and contractor in a challenging project, to dry diamond core drill and install grouted anchors, up to 7m in length. All work had to be carried out carefully, without damage to the historic fabric and wallpapers present in the bedrooms at
Mount Stewart House in Newtownards.
Consequently, Stronghold Preservation were formally mentioned in
The Structural Awards 2016, when the restoration of Mount Stewart House was awarded the prestigious Award for Structural Heritage. The IStructe Judges commended the careful work undertaken in order to retain the historic fabric. The Awards showcase the most exciting and innovative structural engineering projects from around the world (past winners include The 2012 Velodrome, The Supreme Court of New Zealand & The Cutty Sark).
Mount Stewart, a neo-classical stately home, owned by the National Trust, had suffered from some structural fracture cracks in the masonry, and required intervention in order to retain the structural integrity of the building.

Further Information
Mount Stewart house dates from the 18th Century, but
was remodelled in the early 19th Century in the
neo-classical style. However, it is the 98 acres of
landscaped gardens, in which the house is set, which is what Mount
Stewart is famed for. The famous gardens and outdoor 'rooms'
were planted in the 1920's by Lady Londonderry, are of
international significance, and contain many rare plants.
