As an important archaeological and historical monument, the walls required structural repair and stabilisation due to movement and inappropriate maintenance works over the years.
Phase 1 was awarded to Braldi Ltd who employed Stronghold Preservation to carry out the installation of Cintec ties to prevent delamination and to strengthen the wall, along with vertical 4m Cintec anchors to stabilise horizontal cracks. Stronghold Preservation also carried out low pressure grouting of voids within the wall using a NHL grout.

The Cashel City Walls date from medieval times, sometime in the
1300's. They comprise of mainly limestone, are approximately
1500metres in length, and up to 5metres in height. Conservation
works were carried out to repair large cracks; to carefully remove
damaging and invasive vegetation (mainly ivy); removal of
inappropriate and damaging cement based mortar; as well as general
re-pointing and void filling.
