In 2011, Stronghold Preservation were requested to carry out structural repairs at this world famous hotel, prior to a major restoration project. The extent of defects to the listed facade included spalling brickwork caused by water/frost damage and structural cracks caused mainly by corroding steel. As the works were located at various locations across the imposing 35m high building, it was decided that the quickest and most cost effective method of access was to utilise rope access techniques (abseiling).
Further Information
Stronghold Preservation provided their specialist rope access team
for this 7 week contract to carry out a range of discreet
structural stabilisation repairs, which satisfied the need for
safety and an aesthetic finish that did not impact upon the
appearance of this prestigious building. These included a discreet
stainless steel structural netting system to prevent masonry
falling, and hidden crack repairs and stitching to stabilise the
facade and chimneys. This world famous luxury 5 star hotel, a
home-from-home for many royals and celebrities, is a grade 2 listed
building, with magnificent original Art Deco features.
