This concrete framed brick building was built in two sections in the 1960s and 1970s. Cracks in the walls were assessed to be as a result of differential movement and poorly fixed cavity wall ties.
Along with new brickwork angles and proper expansion joints,
wall tie replacement was required. Stronghold Preservation were able to assist the engineer and help design the remedial wall tie system, by carrying out trial installations and load testing of sample ties.
Further Information
A combination of ties were selected and installed by Stronghold
Preservation to suit the various substrates. A helical self tapping
tie was used in one area, for its speed, cost effectiveness, ease
of installation and its minimal 7mm entry hole. Resin fixing ties
were used in other areas were the substrate was not favourable for
the helical wall tie.
