Delamination of Concrete and Masonry Buildings

Often, especially in historic and heritage buildings, the masonry and plasterwork starts to crumble and fragment; however, for various reasons the timing is not quite right for a major renovation.  When this happens, parts of the building, especially decorative items, can actually fall off, and become a hazard for people below.

At Stronghold Preservation we have pioneered a masonry netting system, which is a temporary solution for hazardous and delaminating buildings to prevent falling masonry and bricks.  We use a discreet fine mesh net with stainless steel fixings to hold in place the delaminating concrete and masonry. The mesh also helps prevent any falling masonry, reducing the risk of injury to the public.  The masonry netting is often used in conjunction with Cintec cementitious anchors and crack stitching methods, where there are more severe structural repairs required.

This system has been used on listed buildings, and has been accepted by conservation specialists as being visually acceptable, whilst being completely reversible.

Often, this system is, due to the height or location of the building, best applied using rope access (abseiling).
